Elf is a 2003 American Christmas comedy film directed by Jon Favreau and written by David Berenbaum.
Raised as an oversized elf, Buddy (Will Ferrell) travels from the North Pole to New York City to meet his biological father, Walter Hobbs (James Caan), who doesn’t know he exists and desperately needs some Christmas spirit.
