Living With Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, which leads to changes in memory, thinking and behavior.

If you have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or another dementia, you are not alone. We are here to offer resources, guidance and support.

Today, more than 5 million Americans, including 12,500 Alaskans, are living with Alzheimer’s or related dementia. Worldwide it is estimated that more than 47 million people are living with some form of dementia.

Learn

Learning as much as you can is the first step toward taking control of your life. In the early stage of the disease, you can live well by empowering yourself with the right information and resources. Our ADRD info pages are a good place to start.

Take your time and learn at your own pace, as some information may be difficult to deal with.

Our classes & webinars are a helpful resource to many people that might be on a similar journey. Our dementia educators offer free consultations and can tell you which classes might be best for you.

Support

Many people also find it helpful to join a support group. Support groups are a way for people with a common experience to help and learn from each other. They can be an important source of emotional support, and a great way to see what works for others and learn about local services. There are many regularly meeting support groups throughout Alaska so look for one that fits your schedule.

If you aren’t sure where to start, our dementia educators offer free consultations and can help guide you down an appropriate path.
